Diurnal Pabulum: Turkey Sandwich

Had to head out to field today, and grabbed a quick meal for lunch later at the Husky House.

The turkey sandwich and a side of beef jerky. It's weird how chewing on bits of food constantly keeps me awake on my long drive. Safety first, calorie second!

The beef jerky was good, not as salty as the others I'd tried. The sandwich...let's forget that I even had it (the bun was tough, and the meat dry as bark...). Shouldn't have been lazy and went subway instead. Then again, this is cheaper.

Jake's Down South

Went out for lunch today with a friend of a friend, and he recommended this place. The menu is pretty extensive, and they actually serve something exotic...Alligator Crostini!

As we're really really hungry, we ended up just ordering a full lunch instead of those alligator appies, but definitely worth a taste next time I am here.

The items on the menu all sounds good, but one that caught my eye was the MONTE CRISTO. Here's the description...

A Jake’s legend! Thick cut bread, spicy capicolli ham, chicken breast, jalapeno havarti, thick...dipped in egg and grilled.

What can go wrong with an all meat sandwich? Nothing! And it didn't disappoint :)

The sandwich came with a side salad, and their popular maple vinaigrette. It tastes really good, or maybe I was just hungry...

A close-up...

Besides the bread being a little soggy on the inside (guess they just spread too much butter on them), everything else were superb! Coming back here for a lunch is a definite yes-yes.

Delmonica's Restaurant

Went for lunch today with a group of newly found friends whom I met in a course previously. As we're tight on time, and don't really want to go fast food, we ended up at Delmonica's Restaurant, located just next to the Stanford Grande Prairie Hotel.

They had a regular menu there, but we went with their "famous" lunch buffet. Not sure what's the big deal as there are not much variety to it....2 kinds of salad, chicken breast topped with tons of cheese, meat loaf, and the regular mash potato...plus desserts of course.

So here's what I got on my 1st round...

The meat loaf was really soggy for some reason, even though it looks perfectly cooked from the outside...tastewise, it's pretty good actually. The chicken breast was the real surprise here; it looks really plain, but o boy, it was GOOD! Tender, moist, loads of melted cheese on it...awesomeness :)

Next up is the dessert...

For dessert, they have quite the variety, but after eating 5 pieces of chicken, there's only enough room for 2 kinds -_-...and I went with the ever-tempting mousse and the rhubarb crumble (next to the mousse). It was a good end to a filling meal.

I asked the waitress before I left if they changed their buffet menu everyday, and she said yes. Definitely worth another visit!

Taco Time

Feeling hungry after a quick jog around the block. Too lazy to cook, I decided to eat out :). Sadly, not many options out here in GP around evening time...only fast food joints are open :(

DQ, KFC or maybe...Taco Time!

The store was empty when I walked in, I am the only one customer with 2 servers. However, they were really nice, really really friendly :) I find the people in GP to be more humane than those in other cities.

Ordered the beef and chicken tacos...

The beef taco was smothered in sauce, too much for my liking, and not enough beef! I miss Beef Teriyaki....
The chicken was decent, but a tad too dry. No complains from my grumbling stomach though. The one thing I liked was the insanely huge heaping of guacamole that was in the Taco (yes, I did ask for more, and they give a lot more)...I love guacamole. It's supposed to be healthy too right?

Ok food, excellent service.

Prairie Sushi Japanese Restaurant

Just a few days in GP and I am already missing sushi! Thankfully, there's one within walking distance of my new place. Did some research beforehand, and there are only 2 sushi place locally...ONLY 2!!?? The other one being Tokyo Ichiban, which doesn't sit well with me based on experience with them back home.

So off to Prairie Sushi I went. The place is quite empty, probably why there are only 2 sushi places around...guess raw fish doesn't quite compare to big slabs of steak as the locals like it :) But for a West coast Canuck, the opposite applies.

Ordered the maki and nigiri combo, which came with a bowl of miso soup.

Close-up...

Maki were average, so were the nigiri. One thing I like is the wild salmon...I realized it taste more fishy and salmon-y than those farmed ones back home. As normal as they taste, it definitely satisfied my sushi craving for another day.

Diurnal Pabulum: Roasted Chicken

Too lazy to cook tonight, and hungry after work...found a sacrificial offering in the form of a roasted chicken, from the nearby co-op store.

Price is on the high side compared to other stores (cheapest is Superstore by far), and taste and texture are below par as well (Superstore is again the winner....maybe the $ factor plays a factor into taste...haha). Too dry and bland for my palate.

Bar One

Just arrived in GP yesterday, and ready to begin my food journey.

Stayed at the Sandman Hotel downtown just to be in walkable distance to work. There are 2 restaurants in the hotel - Denny's and Bar 1 - and to the latter I went for dinner.

Ordered the Chef's Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast.

Regular tossed salad imo, and normal grilled herb chicken breast. But hungry I was, and that was gone in 10 minutes. Only gripe...the waitress offered a few choices for dressings, but realized later only vinaigrette was available.

Diurnal Pabulum: Salad Buffet

Still getting used to the new town, work and life. For lunch today...visited the local co-op for their pick-what-you-want salad bar. It operates much like Sunterra in Calgary.

Quick and healthy lunch.
